Taking the first step toward a developmental evaluation can bring many emotions—uncertainty, concern, and even relief. If you are wondering whether your child may benefit from additional support, you are not alone, and you are in the right place.
At Little Spurs Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics, we make this process as comfortable, supportive, and clear as possible for you and your child. From the moment you walk in, our team works to ensure you feel heard, informed, and confident about what comes next.
What the Evaluation Process Looks Like
Our autism evaluations are designed to give us a full understanding of your child’s development. They typically take place over three visits.
First, we get to know your child.
During your first visit, we learn about your child’s development, behavior, and medical history. We also listen to your concerns and observations. You know your child best, and your input matters.
Next, we complete the assessment.
During the second visit, a trained clinician completes the ADOS-2 assessment. This is a structured, play-based evaluation. It helps us observe how your child communicates, interacts socially, and engages with their environment. Many families find this feels more like guided play than testing.
Finally, we review the results together.
At your follow-up visit, we explain the results and answer your questions. We also review next steps and recommendations. If your child meets criteria for a diagnosis, we provide the documentation needed for therapy and support services.
Throughout the process, our goal is not only to evaluate but also to help you understand your child and feel confident supporting their growth.
What Is the ADOS-2?
The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2), is a standardized tool used to assess communication, social interaction, and play. At Little Spurs Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, we use a child-friendly, play-based approach that feels natural and engaging.
The ADOS-2 can be used for individuals from 12 months through adulthood, depending on developmental level. Our clinicians tailor each assessment to your child’s needs and comfort.
Ready to Take the Next Step?
Whether your child receives a diagnosis or not, our goal is the same: to give you the knowledge, resources, and confidence to support their development. We believe children thrive when caregivers feel supported and informed.
We focus on clear communication, education, and compassionate care throughout your experience with us. Every child’s journey is different, but you do not have to navigate it alone. Our team is here to guide you, answer your questions, and support you at every step.
