Our licensed clinical psychologist partners closely with families to develop personalized, evidence-based treatment plans that support emotional well-being, resilience, and long-term success.
What is Depression?
Depression is a mood disorder that affects how a child or teen feels, thinks, and functions in daily life. While it’s normal for children to experience occasional sadness, depression involves persistent feelings that last for weeks or longer and begin to interfere with school, relationships, and everyday activities.
In children and adolescents, depression may not always look like sadness—it can also appear as irritability, frustration, or withdrawal.
Signs & Symptoms of Depression in Children
Depression can impact multiple areas of a child’s life. Common symptoms may include:
- Persistent sadness, irritability, or mood swings
- Loss of interest in activities they once enjoyed
- Changes in sleep patterns (sleeping too much or too little)
- Changes in appetite or weight
- Low energy or fatigue
- Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
- Withdrawal from family, friends, or social activities
- Decline in school performance
- Feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt
If these symptoms persist and affect your child’s daily functioning, a professional evaluation is an important next step.
